2011 World SBK kicks-off at Phillip Island
Tonight at 4am -Kuwait local time- the first round of the 2011 world super bike championship kicks-off at Phillip Island.
Carlos Checa set the quickest lap ever recorded around Phillip Island on his Althea Racing Ducati 1098R -1 minute 30.882 seconds-, thus grabbing the first Superpole trophy of the year, Biaggi came second on the Apprila, and Haslam forth on the S1000 RR.
I believe its gonna be an intense race, with the three aggressive boys at the poles.
A benchmark for street bikes
The Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC Special Edition is serious track bike it applies Aprilia’s track technology and experience to Aprilia’s supersports road bikes, the new RSV4 APRC -Aprilia Performance Ride Control- special edition comes with adjustable traction control -8 settings- , wheelie control -3 settings-, launch control -3 settings-, quick shifter and an ECU derived from Aprilia’s SBK bike.
This bike is almost a clone Max Biaggi‘s bike, i believe it is the most beautiful bike currently in market -not locally- . Read more
Ducati dominates Imola
But Aprilia claims the championship….what an exciting race it was, in race one Ducati claimed the entire podium and in race two Ducati claimed the 1st and 2ed positions.
Checa on the Ducati and Sykes on the Kawasaki gave us a great show, i have never seen a Kawasaki performing that good before….on the other hand Biaggi did not do much in this race as if he was certain of the championship…and a mistake from Haslam gifted the championship to Aprilia.
The final round will take place in France on Oct 3ed. and it will only rearrange the manufacturer standings a bit.
Master Max
Yesterdays’ race at Monza was the best race of the season, Max Biggi shined from start to finish in both rounds.
Biggi was unstoppable, sliding into a corner and coming out of the same corner with a wheelie….got me glued to the TV for 36 laps.
Toseland on the R1 was the motivator for Max, he pushed Biggi to the limit but then he couldn’t keep up, in race two Crutchlow’s also gave Biggi a good run but his R1 broke down later on.
The race marked the first ever World Superbike podium for BMW, Xaus posted his best ever result for the team, with a sixth place in race one, and Troy Corser came third place from 12th on the grid in race two.
It was also a great race for Tom Sykes the Kawasaki man who gave Haga a hard time, and Haga couldn’t overtake him.
Biaggi doubling it up
Max Biaggi on the RSV4 Factory and Leon Haslam on the GSX-R gave us an exciting show on race one at Portimao, they continued part 2 of the show in race 2, leaving Haslam in second place at both races.
One would expect the RSV4 to be agile on the curves, but the Aprilia was faster than any other bike on the straights as well !! i never thought i would ever see a GSX-R takes the beating on the straights…
A first for Aprilia
Biaggi on the Aprilia scored his first win of the season in race one at Brno, It was also Aprilia’s first win in the category since 2001, Biaggi cruised to finish line after Spies and Fabrizio were eliminated when Fabrizio crashed taking down Spies down with him, Troy Corser on the S1000RR led the opening two laps, while Xaus on the same bike crashed out on the first lap.
In race two Spies led towards his eleventh win of the season, but it wasn’t easy as he had to keep Biaggi at bay, Biaggi took second, third went to Fabrizio.
