English Man in Italy
The second race of the World Super Bike championship -Misano round-was a fierce fight between the young -22 years- English rider Jonathan Rea and Fabrizio, after a couple of spectacular laps and just when we thought Fabrizio and Haga will eat Rea alive and claim the title of this race.. Rea manages to slip away to the podium.
Ducati is still leading the WSBK, the points as follows:
Haga 292 points
Spies 244 points
Fabrizio 237 points
Race one was a bore and as expected Spies came 1st, Byrne 2nd , and Fabrizio 3rd.
Catalunya 2009 -The Battle-
Circuit de Catalunya
In 2 hours from now -14:30 local time- the sixth round of the MotoGP 2009 will kick off..its airing in on Jazeera Sport 1, and thanks to FASTtelco and Sling Box i will be watching it on my laptop from the office.
Faster than an F1
Dani Pedrosa has set a new top speed record of 349.3 km/h on his Repsol Honda, a record speed higher than what F1 cars manage on their fastest straight at Monza.
The new recored is 1.7 km/h faster than the previous record, set by Loris Capirossi on a 990 Ducati in 2003, Pedrosa had the benefit of slipstreaming Rossi.
Make that a double please
Dominating race one and two, Haga made the perfect weekend for Ducati, Fabrizio was the tail man and made a couple of nice passes on Haga, but the Japanese came back just to clinch his sixth win of the season..apart from the last 2 rounds race 2 was a bit boring without Ben Spies of Yamaha pressure on team Ducati, the Texan had to retire after gear problems.
Strategic thinking
Today’s race was more like a chess game than a race, the wet track made the riders very cautious most of the race….the only action in the race was between the two Honda team mates towards the end of the race.
Lorenzo’s calculations were best, he decided to stick to the wet tires and increase the gabs until the time was right to go in and get the slicks..he was the last rider to go into the pit, Rossi had pit diarrhea… he spent more time going in and out from the bit than on the track.
A replay of round 2 of the world super bike will be showing today on Jazeera Sport 2 at 20:00, hope that will have some action.
Sharing is caring
Michel Fabrizio (Ducati Xerox) and Ben Spies (Yamaha World Superbike) shared the wins at one of the most exciting Superbike rounds in Monza today.
Fabrizio won race 1 after Spies ran out of fuel meters from the finish line…in race 2 Spies dominated from start to finish and after a few laps cruised alone to the checker flag.
Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox) crashed in race 2 after being hit by a bird, BMW Ruben Xaus finished in ninth place.
Back on top
The Spanish MotoGP round was very exciting as expected…it was a furious battle between Pedrosa, Rossi, Stoner and Lorenzo, but despite the home field advantage Pedrosa had, Rossi took his first win of the season beating Pedrosa on his home land.
Pedrosa started strong with his trademark “Strong Start” and led the race for the first 17 rounds, but Rossi took the lead after that and never looked back.
The race also marked the first podium for Stoner at the Spanish track.
Lorenzo snatches Polini
Jorge Lorenzo took the standings lead at the Polini Grand Prix of Japan, with Stoner not performing as should..the race was a bit boring, Lorenzo snatched the lead from Rossi and continued to increase the gab while Rossi kept Pedrosa busy.
Lorenzo got a bit over excited and kept riding around the track greeting the fans when his bike ran out of fuel and the Marshals had to push him all the way back to the podium.
The next round will be on May 3rd in Spain, that’s where Lorenzo is expected to get huge support… the people there are very passionate about the Spanish riders and Lorenzo should take a risk to win it, the race should be very entertaining as Pedrosa is also Spanish and he won that race last year.
