A couple of days back we got an invitation form Zain social media team to participate in the Q&A session with @ZainKuwaitCEO, the event is organized for the bloggers and the tweeters to chat directly with the CEO and other head of departments at Zain Kuwait like to ask them the questions that a phone call to 107 won’t answer.

The event took place yesterday at Zain HQ, the atmosphere was nice and humble thanks to the CEO and his sense of humor that broke the ice and encouraged the audience to speak their minds. Mr.Al-Omar discussed the shift in the company social strategy and the reasons behind the it and resin behind losing interest in some social and sport events, he also talked about the roamers that spreads on the social media channels, the way they respond to it -or not- , and the impact of such roamers.

A lot of questions were asked, personal experiences were shared, new services requested, and enhancements on current ones, which the management agreed to take action on immediately !

The new online bill was also featured in the event, Mr.Al Mutawaq hosted a walk thru presentation of the bill, he explained the amount of details one can get out of it, and the simplicity in reading these information. It doesn’t matter if you have only one line or you are a company with over a 100 lines, the new online bill will help you to easily manage your account, you can also upload your address book and get the call log by name instead of numbers.

Finally i would like to thank Zain for their transparency and hope it becomes contagious and infect the ISP’s.

The next big thing

Apple just launched the iPad, the device is just a bigger iPhone but without the phone, but with 3G connection that we can use to place VOIP calls, a lot of people my have been disappointed or was expecting something much more interesting than just a bigger iPodiPhone, but i was expecting this since the day i got addicted to my iPhone, the damn thing dosn’t leave my hand..it goes to all the places i go to especially the toilet in the morning, either to listen to music while showering or to check and answer emails while….

I can conduct around 70% of my office work communication using my iPhone but at so many occasions i wished it had a bigger screen, faster processor, better battery life, and the ability to save files and openplay different media formats, the same goes for my laptop i always wanted a faster, lighter 12 inch Mac with better battery life -am still using my 12″ PB G4-.

With the new iPad i believe i can do it all, and i very much belive its going to be the next and only businessentertainment gadget one will ever need…come to think of it at the office most of us use their computers for email, internet, and socializing, at home we use our laptops for the same plus watching movie, listing to music, and gaming, the iPad will do all that and maybe more, so i guess we’ll soon say goodbye to our laptops or we’ll just use them edit home movies.

Two weeks ago -June 27 to be exact-, i changed my Zain line form postpaid to prepaid, i was told its gona take 10 minutes for the line to work but of-course it did not, called 107 to check and was told to just give it another 30 min…one hour later and the line is still not working called them again and this time a smart guy answer and he knew what the problem was… he opens a ticket and tells me it will take up 48 hours to work !!!

Called them yesterday -after 13 days- and they go we tried to speak to you but we couldn’t..i go: don’t call me just activate the line why do you want speak me about?

They said ok fine it will work in the next 24 hours…called them again today and reminded them of what they told me yesterday and they said we are working on it and it will get solved in less that 24 hours Inshalah!!!

The internet at the hotel is lousy and very expensive -3 KDhr- and advertising for the 3.6 HSDPA USB stick is here, there and everywhere, so we decided to get it… hailed a cab and asked him to take us to the nearest Vodafone branch…walked-in and asked for 2 devices on a prepaid plan..we were asked for ID thats when they found out that we are tourists and not residents and was turned down, the cab was still waiting for us outside to take us back to the hotel and he asked why we came back empty handed.. we told him..he asked if they would accept his ID we said we could try, so we went back in again he presented his ID and got us 2 devices.

The thing cost KD20, 10 for the device and another 10 for the unlimited plan!!!

Just like a lot of people who tried to get a nice number from Viva my attempts were a total failure, so i decided to forget all about it.

Today i wanted to call my online broker in the US, so i went to the website to get the number, the number was 1-800-etrade-1 which suddenly rang a BELL…i browsed back to Viva’s website and got myself a new number 55MyName55.

Depending on how many characters your name is, you need to try different combinations like 55YourName, 555YourName, 5YourName5.
