Q&A with Vale

June 16, 2010 by · 1 Comment

1. Vale, first question: how are you and are you still in pain?

The positive thing is that the worst is past and that the two operations went well, so everything is okay. Now I am expecting a difficult period, in which I have to be aware of the risk of infection and in which I must remain with the leg constantly elevated. Then there will come a second key period, when I will be able to start my rehabilitation and, with support on the leg, will be able to start to walk around with crutches.

2. Dr. Buzzi talked about a rehabilitation period of about five or six months, what do you think? Read more

Vale is out

The crash Rossi had yesterday during the practice session left him with a broken tibia and fibula of the right leg, he was operated on for around 3 hours and the surgery was a success…the doctors used Spinal Block (epidural) insted of general anesthesia which means that Rossi was awake during the surgery and can see and hear all the cutting and drilling to his leg but without feeling any pain.

The bad news is that he will be out of the track for around 5 month, so today’s race at Mugello will be with out Rossi.

Race start at 2:30pm on Jazeera Sport +3.

Dislocated shoulder

December 1, 2009 by · 10 Comments

When i first fell the ambulance took me to Al Amiri hospital, i was examined,  x-rayed, and a doctor explained my injuries and said we might need to give you full anesthesia to fix your dislocated shoulder, then he comes back and says its better we send to the pros’ at Al Razi and they fix it for you there.

30min later am on an ambulance heading to Al Razi, once there i was examined by “senior” kuwaiti doctor the x-rayed again, the doctor decided that my shoulder is ok and its not dislocated !!!! but i know how a dislocated shoulder feel so i asked my brother to find another doctor to take a look at my shoulder, so he goes and comes back with a junior doctor -young Kuwaiti- the guy takes a look at my shoulder and the x-rays then says: i think its dislocated, but let us take some more x-rays from diffrent angles…so we did and he confirmed the dislocation then goes and asks the other senior doctor to come and reexamine the shoulder again…which he did, and again confirms its not dislocated and walks away !!!!

So we ask the junior doctor what he thinks, and he says i think its dislocated but the boss said its not, and am like a solider here if the commander in chef says something i have to obay!!

So in order not to embarrass him anymore we asked him if could just lead us to another doctor and we will ask for a second opinion, then he asks us to just wait for a while….he walks away and comes back with another doctor and a male nurse…they close the curtains and and agree on who will pull what and who will hold what…then start pulling and tilting… 10 sec my shoulder is back in place..and what pain reliever that was.

Later my brother comes in smiling and says that he just had a chat with the doctor and apparently he is also a biker and just bought his Ducati 1198 a couple of weeks back.

Thanks Dr.Bashar.

Last Friday i had a small accident, i fell of my bike…the road was straight and my speed was around 70-80km,  all i can recall is that i felt like i have hit something and the front wheel started shaking i tried to ease the head shake by accelerating to unload the weight of the front wheel… it worked for a couple of seconds just to come back harder than before and the bike became like a raging bull on a rodeo ring and throw me away.

I managed to stand up and walk away from the street, my nose was bleeding as i was wearing an open face helmet with the visor removed …any way i ended up with a dislocated left shoulder, dislocated right pinky, cracked left toe, deeply scuffed right knee and a broken nose…i could have avoided the nose injury if i was wearing a full face helmet, and the knee cut if i was wearing my riding jeans not a regular jeans.

Now am all wrapped up like a mummy and enjoying the pain killers high, i just realized that 5 days already passed

Watching all these bikers in Athens riding made miss riding a lot, and wanting to go back to Kuwait to ride my bike…the way motorcyclists ride in Athens is as if they are running away from a volcano, it doesn’t matter if they are ridding a 1300cc bike or just the 50cc delivery scooter…they all ride with an attitude.

Am back in Kuwait now and can’t wait to ride the beast, but unfortunately 2 of my friends crashed a couple of days ago, believe it or not they collided into each other…nothing serious just a couple of cracked rips, a broken arm, and a scare.

The above photo is for a used Desmosedici at a Ducati dealer in Athens with only 600km, they are asking 60000 Euros for it.

Caffeine

Saturday 6:30pm,

I woke up Friday 11am to visit the Pyramids and Cairo Museum -a post about the visit will follow- and am still up since then..around 31 hours so far, we had a small incident….we left Cairo Saturday 4am heading to Ras Sider and half way one of the cars flipped over and 2 guys got injured, so we headed back to Cairo..that’s after the police paper work and first aiding the injured-a broken arm and a pretty good scare-.

The meeting at Ras Sider was supposed to be our last business meeting before flying to Sharm El Shaikh, anyway the dude needs to rest a couple of days and do some proper checkups at a proper hospital in Cairo before we can meet again and finalize what we came here for, so its no use waiting in Cairo…we are on the way to the airport hoping to find a fly to Sharm.

Update: i ended this and went to bed Sunday 5am, my total up time was 42 hours..not bad..i could have completed the 48 but i couldn’t find anything interesting.
