Optimate™ 3+ Desulfating Battery Charger

I haven’t been riding my bikes this summer, i was either traveling or the weather is too hot to ride…i think more than 4 month have past since i last started them up…that made the batteries really weak, but they were still able to crank the engine, so i figured if i don’t do something about it really quick they will probably die and have to change them.

So i went and bought the Optimate 3+ battery charger, the charger comes with a Ducati adapter and i bought an extra adapter for the BMW, it verify, tests, and confirms whether the battery can retain sufficient charge to crank the engine, it applies ‘first aid’ for up to 2 hours, to recover the battery so it can again accept charge…then it engages the long term maintenance mode, it “floats & tests” 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off, so the battery is always 100% ready, but never overcharged.

I hooked it to the BMW and left over night to charge, the next morning i went to check it just to find out that the cleaners decided to hose the parking and that my Optimate 3+ was completely wet…it was actually swimming in a small pool of water but still working!! i unplugged it and went to read the manual to check what could be done…to my surprise the thing turns out water broof!!

Lesson learned: always read the manual before operating anything no matter how silly you may think it is.

This is our third day in Crete, i did some googling while at the airport waiting to depart and found Minos Imperial Luxury Beach Resort & Spa, the rates were way out of buddget but i gave them a call and got a very good deal so we booked a 2 bedroom suite.. the hotel is 10 min away from Malia and 15 min from Agios Nikolaos, it has a nice beach, around 5 or 6 sea water pools, suites with private pools, kids pools, a small aqua park and everything else that a spa should have.

We couldn’t rent a car at the airport so we had to take a cab and stopped at every car rental office on the way and finally found one at Crete Holidays we got a brand new Fait Panda which is great for the narrow roads of the island.

Cairo,

Make sure you stay at a 10 Stars hotel –Sofitel El Gezirah is good-, you don’t need to spend more than 2 days there…the morning of the first day you visit the pyramids and museum in the afternoon you find a good restaurant and have lunch -grilledfried sea food is your safest bet, then go back to the hotel for a siesta.

In the evening you could take a Nile tour -hotels have the best ones- at night around 1 am find a good night club to watch belly dancing because you didn’t visit Cairo if don’t do a belly dance night.. at 7am you leave the night club back to hotel have breakfast and sleep.

Night clubs: Samire Amis Intercontinental and a couple at Haram St.

Restaurants: Abu El Seed, and Nile City.

Coffee: On The Go at any gas station, Bottled Water: Nestle

Don’t ask taxi drivers or waiters for recommendations, only ask the concierge or do some googling. Read more

zain

Two weeks ago -June 27 to be exact-, i changed my Zain line form postpaid to prepaid, i was told its gona take 10 minutes for the line to work but of-course it did not, called 107 to check and was told to just give it another 30 min…one hour later and the line is still not working called them again and this time a smart guy answer and he knew what the problem was… he opens a ticket and tells me it will take up 48 hours to work !!!

Called them yesterday -after 13 days- and they go we tried to speak to you but we couldn’t..i go: don’t call me just activate the line why do you want speak me about?

They said ok fine it will work in the next 24 hours…called them again today and reminded them of what they told me yesterday and they said we are working on it and it will get solved in less that 24 hours Inshalah!!!

Cairo is very crowded and the traffic is awful, there is nothing to do in the morning other than visiting the Pyramids or the museum and this is what we did on Friday.

The best thing to do is to rent a Karta -Hantour- and the guide will show you everything and recite the history of the Pyramids-he can do it in 6 languages-, then he’ll take you to a perfume shop..don’t let them lure to any of that.. don’t even go in.

I was told not to eat and not to drink but i did…we had dinner yesterday at a place called Abo El Seed, its a cosy restaurant in the Zamalek area, they serve local cuisine -i did not know they had anything other than El Fool-.

The food was good, and what’s even better is that 24 hours has passed with no side effects, we had some local starters then a couple of Tagine dishes and finally Fetair Mishlitet.

Ducati StreetFighter

slide

The term “streetfighter” originated from stripping the fairing of superbikes then adding high bars to create an urban bike with easier handling, the new Ducati Streetfighter is based on unfaired 1098/1198 superbikes, and is here to replace the Monster S4Rs.

Most of the parts in the Streetfighter are new in one way or the another…the engine is almost a straight lift of the 1098, except for the crankcases which are the from the 1198’s -3kg lighter-, the chassis is the same as the 1198’s with a different geometry, the rear subframe is new and shortens the bike by three inches compared with the 1098, the fuel tank is new so is the exhaust, the traction control (DTC) is also the same as the 1198’s and has eight setting so you can change these setting depending on your testosterone level.

I believe the Streetfighter will be a thrilling bike, and i would like to have a go on it but it has one problem that is the lack of wind protection…but again you can’t criticize a naked bike for the lack of fairing right?

Manage Your Seats more Professionally !

A friend gave a ticket for a seminar organized by the Kuwait Chapter of the International Advertising Association, it’s about how to “Manage Your Ideas more Professionally” ..i don’t usually attend events organized by this “association” because i think its a waste of time, but my friend insisted that i should ..because the famous German dude Ralf Langwost is giving the seminar ..so i accepted, not becuase i knew who Ralf Langwost is, but because i didn’t want to look ignorant if i didn’t.

For some weird reason the seminar was in a ballroom at Hyatt Hospital !!!

So anyway i went there, the hostess at the door gave the directions were to find a seat ..she opened the door to a room that was around 6m x 6m and packed with people just like a big sardine can…she couldn’t even open the door fully to let me in because there was people setting next to the door..i had to squeeze myself in only to find that there were no seats available ! i wasn’t the only one ..a couple of guys were already standing outside and making fun of it…how could someone organize an event like this and sells tickets -mine had the  “paid Delegates” stamp on it so it was not free – and not have enough seats ?

Yallah.. at least Mr.Langwost could now go back to Germany and write a book on seat management.

K13R

Its powerfull..very powerful, yet the power delivery is smooth and precise… size and looks are deceiving, and may lure you away from this bike thinking you may not enjoy riding such a big bike….but the K1300R goes way beyond its looks, it handles like a 600cc, has the power of 1300cc, and stops like noting i have ever ridden!!!

The onboard computer on K1300R offers a lot of useful info about the bike and its components like tire pressure, ABS and ASC status..etc.. if you can memorize all the symbols and the way they flash.. fast flash, slow flash, no flash, lights-up red, lights-up yellow..etc.

Automatic Stability Control is a new feature that i did not have the guts to try yet..it intervenes and reduce the torque applied to the rear wheel once it detects a degree of instability like a sliding rare wheel….don’t worry about the bike skidding just squeeze that throttle at that curve and let the ASC take care of it.

Shift assist is yet another kick ass feature…forget all about the clutch and shift up clutchless at any speed, its like a Tiptronic gear box…the thing is so damn quick and seamless…and oh and that backfire pop sound coming from the exhaust evrey time you shift up gives you the feeling of a turbo charged engine…its like POP POP with every gear shift…just grasp that handle bar, twist the throttle, hold on to dear life and let it POP.

The K1300R is a powerful razor sharp bike, but can be as mellow as a BMW 7 series when you want it to be.

POP POP.
